I’ll be honest with you
Getting to this point for me wasn't easy
For most of my school and adult life, my mind wouldn't rest. A lot of the time, it was a non-stop stress and anxiety factory. I had no idea of what being 'in the now' meant. I was never present. I would make fun of people that would suggest such a thing!

I would get irritated with everyday things, and my emotions would take over and take a long time to settle, often with a drink of some kind. Otherwise, the annoying incident might return to my mind, and I would get annoyed again, even though the moment had passed. This could happen days and even weeks later.  
When I became a parent, life got harder. More responsibility. More pressure. Less time. Less sleep. Less money. More irritations. More stress. More uncontrollable reactions!

I would get irritated at my wife, snappy at my kids and stressed myself. It wasn't terrible all the time. Life had just lost its spark.

Then it went from bad to worse. This and other factors led to the end of my marriage (which I had put a lot of positive and committed effort into as well). I was shattered. I couldn't believe what was happening.
My mind went nuts. The repetitive thoughts went into hyper-speed. I literally had some thoughts repeat at least 1000 times each day. My emotions were bursting at the seams. I would sit in my car in a frozen state instead of driving to work, and mope or cry when I got home to an empty house. It was the worst time of my life. 

But I knew I couldn't let this beat me. I had seen others slide into really bad habits. I had to turn this around myself. My kids still needed me and I didn't want to let them down any more. 

But I didn't know where to start. 

So I started trying everything I could, including...
  • Read personal development gurus like Brene Brown, Louise Hay, Tony Robbins, to name a few, but reading didn't stop my habit of impulsive reactions.
  • ​Bodywork practices like Acupuncture, Reiki, Shiatsu, Kinesiology, Physiotherapy and Chiropractic but they didn't stop my repetitive thoughts and racing mind.
  • Different forms of yoga, like Vinsaya, Yin, Hatha, hot Bikram and Kundalini but I struggled to attend class with a busy work and kid schedule.
  • Physical exercises like Jiu-jitsu, Ice baths, Wim Hof breathing, Crossfit, and gym programs but I often got injured and I couldn't keep it going for long.  
  • Mental activities like CBT therapy, Buddhist Meditation, silent retreats, mantras and chanting but the costs added up quickly and I stopped.
  • Nutritional changes like the 5-2 diet, Fast 800, sugar-free, caffeine-free, juicing, and intermittent fasting but it were impossible to make them permanent
And these are just the ones I can remember!

I did these things to get a breakthrough. I needed some peace of mind. I needed to feel calm again.

After spending every spare dollar I had (and some I didn't have) to invest over $85,000 in all of the above and more, I finally realized two critical things:

1.) The body doesn't lie. I needed to listen to it more. My noisy mind was a distraction.

2.) I am the driver of my own experience. The best person to change my life is me.
